Our lads came out on top in a good physical game this afternoon away in Ballymahon.
Ballymahon started the better of the two teams and their early dominance prevailed with the Ballymahon player capitalising giving them the lead.
From then our lads rolled their sleeves up and controlled possession of the game but couldn’t break down a well drilled and solid structured Ballymahon side before the break.
The lads continued their positive attitude and hard working efforts right from the start of the second half and were rewarded when some lovely intricate play down the left between Ryan Dempsey and Cillian fagan who then found Dean scully across the box for a well taken team goal.
Both teams probed for the winner but our defensive shape stayed strong and it was from a set piece whipped in from Dean Scully and when it looked as if the ball was going out Nathan Gavin headed back across for Mark Eivers to net his first goal for the club.
Ballymahon to their credit didn’t give up and only for a massive save from Bernard Glynn in goals and a last ditch tackle from Rory Daly the result could’ve been different.
All players should be proud of their efforts today. We have a joint men of the match both Dean McNicolas who was colossal at the back and Darren Aughey who was excellent in midfield take the honor. Special mention to Joe Doyle who was brilliant in the engine room and worked tirelessly and both wingers Cillian Fagan and Mark Eivers who made massive contributions and Dean Scully for his work and always being an outlet up front.
Thanks to everyone who travelled down and cheered us on!
