Mullingar Celtic FC was formed in September 2020 by a group of friends in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath with the aim of creating a fun, inclusive football club that would create a positive impact in our local community and provide competitive football for players of all levels.

Our home matches for the first two seasons took place in Rathin Community Pitch thanks to the support and cooperation of Catherine McEntee from the Mullingar Youth Project. In our third season, we have moved to hosting games in Mullingar Athletic AFC in Gainstown, Mullingar thanks to the support of Mullingar Athletic’s committee. We train in Mullingar Shamrocks GAA & Cullion GAA Astroturf pitch  and compete in the Combined Counties Football League.

After numerous delays thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, our first ever training session took place on 10th September 2020. Exactly 19 months later, we were crowned CCFL Division 3B champions in our first season after a long, stop-start campaign due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We reached the Westmeath County Cup Final in our first ever tournament, narrowly losing out to Senior Division juggernauts Willow Park FC 2-0 in the final. 

We continued our progression in our second season finishing runners-up in Division 2 and narrowly missing out on a league title to a very experienced and formidable Temple Villa FC team. Our third season saw us compete in Division 1, the second highest division in the CCFL. For much of the year, the Celtic men competed at the top of league with notable wins against old foes Temple Villa and eventual champions Mountmellick Utd but some disappointing results near the end of the season saw our challenge for honours fall short. There was further heartbreak for the Celtic Men when they lost a very close semi-final cup battle versus Division 1 Saturday Champions Moydow FC after the game went to extra time.

The 2024/2025 season promises to be an exciting one as we have started a second Senior Men’s team which will compete in Division 1 Saturday. We are now providing competitive football for over forty local players.

We hope to establish our club as a positive force in the local community in the years to come with more players and teams participating at Mullingar Celtic FC. We were delighted to raise over €2500 for Good2Talk Westmeath to promote positive mental health care and support to our local community in Mullingar and to help the local paediatric ward in Mullingar Regional Hospital with their Easter Raffle.
