We came out on top this afternoon in a great game in Newbridge. Newbridge Rovers opened the scoring from a rebound after Rory Matthews saved a penalty it looked like the goal scorer may have encroached but he stuck the rebound away nicely regardless.
We leveled things up nearly straight away when Ben Walsh picked Ian Keelan out with a great cross. We then went one up from the penalty spot when Keith Hope expertly tucked away a peno after Ryan Dempsey was taken down in the box.
Not long after Keith Hope put us two up after a hazardesque run where he beat 3 or 4 players and stuck the ball into the back of the net.
But to Newbridges credit they never dropped their heads and scored almost immediately after with a great finish from a through ball.
We had the better of the second half and added to our tally whan Ciaran Shanley pulled the ball back to Keith hope who got a well deserved hatrick. David Jessop was unlucky not to score when he hit the post after some excellent pressing play. Our last goal came when Jamie Tarleton put Mark Hickey through who crossed the ball into Ian Keelan for his brace.
All in all it was a great performance against a very good side from Kildare. We would like to wish Newbridge Rovers the very best of luck for the remainder of their season.
It was very hard to pick a man of the match today as Gearoid Sheridan was brilliant in the middle of the pitch and Ian Keelan worked his socks off and scored a great brace, but Keith Hope deserves it after a brilliant hatrick and a excellent overall performance.
Thanks to everyone who came out to support us!
(Great commentary from Clive Kelly and Andy Norris.)
