Excellent performance this morning by the men from Mullingar against a young fit football team from Portlaoise. The first 15 minutes was a cagey affair with neither sides having many shots on goal. After the 15 minute mark we really got the ball down and played some great football.
The first goal came on the 30th minute when Mark Hickey slotted Ian Keelan through who powered home from a tight angle. Portlaoise had a few good chances to equalise before the half time but our defenders and goalkeeper played a blinder to keep them out.
The second goal came 15 minutes into the second half when Keith Hope slid Keelo through again and finished expertly. The third and final goal came 2 minutes after when Keelo found the bottom corner from outside the box to seal his hatrick.
To Portlaoise’s credit they rallied after this and scored a good goal of their own and nearly added a second. From our perspective this was a great win against a really good side, everyone played their part and worked incredibly hard.
Thanks to everyone who came down and cheered us on! Our Clarkes Bar, Mullingar man of the match was Ian Keelan who is in flying form.
