It was a big weekend for the club with both the Sunday team and the newly formed Saturday team both having competive games on the same weekend for the first time.
Unfortunately the weekend started with a loss for the Saturday team against a very strong Ballymahon side. Despite the loss there was plenty of positives to take from the game with some good individual performances and good passages of play at times.
The Sunday team faired better with a great performance today against a very good Gallen United side. We got off the mark early with a Ciaran Shanley header after some determined work in the middle of the park turned over the ball and forced a Corner. We capitalised and went two up in quick succession with a tidy finish by Keith Hope. Credit to the home side, they played some good football and deserved to get back into the game. With 10 minutes left in the half, Cillian Fagan opened his account with the Celts scoring two goals, with a beautiful lob over the keeper from 25 yards being the pick of the bunch! Gallen Utd came out determined in the second but failed to break through our defence. Ciaran Shanley topped off the fine performance with another great finish to seal the victory and take us into the next round.
Brilliant team performance right across the group today! Although some close contenders in Mark Hickey and Ciaran Shanley, man of the match goes to Cillian Fagan.
