Mullingar Celtic B 0 Ballymahon 1.
We’ll start off with this morning’s game where the Celts came out on top in a great game against the unbeaten league leaders Coolraine. The game its self was a great advertisement for the league with both sides playing good football and neither shirking away from a physical battle.
Coolraine took the lead through a great finish in the first half but their lead wasnt long lived as Dean Scully scored a great lob not long after. Both sides had their chances but the keepers in both ends had fine games.
It took untill the 85th minute for us to get the winner through Fola Ayorinde who scored a fantastic goal after some great individual play. This is a massive result for our men and hopefully they can use this as a spring board to kick on!
On Saturday the B team came out the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline against Ballymahon. In a game of few chances it took a wonder goal from ballymahons number 8 to secure the 3 points. It wasn’t a reflection on the game as a whole as Mullingar Celtic had a very good first half but Celtic started slowly in the second half and ballymahon grew into the game. Both teams were cancelling each other out time and time again and it was a case of both sets of defenders gaining the upper hand with each giving attack. It took a moment of magic from ballymahons number 8 to unlock the defence beating 3 players and hitting a thunderbolt of a strike which in fairness no keeper would have got to.
