Weekend Results.
Mullingar Celtic B 0 Longford Rovers 2.
St Carthages 0 Mullingar Celtic A 3.
The weekend started off with a tough defeat against a very strong Longford Rovers. Longford came flying out the blocks and scored within the first minute with the first attack of the game. They doubled their lead not long after with a great strike from outside the box.
It took the second goal to go in for our lads to start playing, but to our lads credit they never dropped their heads and played some excellent football at times. We began to carve out some great chances and only for some fine one on one saves from the Longford goalkeeper we could’ve got something out of the game.
The Sunday team continued their fine run of form with a massive away win against St. Carthages in a game which was scrappy from start to finish.
St. Carthages started the better with some promising early attacks but we grew into the game and gained control after the first 10 minutes.
The deadlock was broken early in the first half when Jogger Doyle found his strike partner Keith Hope who cooly finished, giving the keeper no chance.
Our second goal came from a lovely ball over the Carthages defence to the oncoming Daire Hynes, who slotted it into the back of the net.
While there was a number of half chances the killer goal came from a beautiful strike from outside the box when David Jessop latched onto a clearance from a corner and rifled the ball into the bottom corner to ensure the Celtic men came home with 3 points.
Massive thank you to everyone who came out and cheered us on in both games.
