Mullingar Celtic (Sat) 3 Longford Rovers 5.
Longford Rovers got the win in a exciting game out in Gainstown yesterday evening. We took the lead around the 30th minute when Rory Daly whipped in a fine ball that Fola Ayorinde latched onto and slotted home. Longford had alot of possession after the goal went in but didn’t trouble Bernard in goal due to some excellent defending from our men.
We had alot of lads returning from injury and our lack of match fitness / sharpness showed in the early stages of the second half, where too their credit, Longford turned it on and scored 4 goals in 10 minutes. To our lads credit, where we lacked in fitness we made up in heart and thanks to a great freekick from substitute Mark Hickey and another good finish from the returning Fola Ayorinde we clawed ourselves back into the game.
In the last 10 minutes we looked nailed on to grab an equaliser and pushed everyone forward which left the opertunity open for Longford to catch us on the break and put the result beyond any doubt.
Although we were beaten, there can be plenty of positives taken from the game in particular the performance of Jack Curran out of position at left back and the return of a few of our other lads.
Thanks to everyone who came down and cheered us on! Next up is an away game to Moydow in the Mall this coming Saturday.
