A convincing derby day away win for our Celtic men today against local rivals Mullingar Town in Dalton Park Sunday morning.
Mullingar Town had a good chance to break the deadlock early on when their winger went through on goal only to fire just over, that was the shock to the system we needed as after that we got the ball down and began to play some excellent football.
Demo was the man to break the deadlock in the 35th minute after a beautifully weighted pass from Keith Hope cut the Town defence open.
Freck doubled the tally not long after keeping his composure in the box and finding the bottom corner to make it 2-0 at half time.
Celtic came flying out the traps in the second half quickly adding a third through Ian Keelan who worked tirelessly all morning. Mullingar Town were reduced to ten shortly afterwards. Keelo then got his second not long after and looked nailed on for a third when he was 1 on 1 with the Town keeper but was hacked down from behind for a penalty. The Town defender was correctly sent off for being the last man and stopping a clear goalscoring opportunity. Unfortunately, two Mullingar Town players also got sent off for disputing the referee’s decision and Keelo was denied the opportunity to take the penalty and claim his hattrick as the match was abandoned.
Although it was an unsavoury end, it was a great victory for our small club to get our first victory over Mullingar’s oldest club.
