Highfield had this game wrapped up by half time when they built a 4 goal advantage. Simon Hayes got the home side off to the perfect start when he netted from close range after 3 minutes. They home side quickly added a second on 11 minutes through Ceilim King and Simon Hayes then added his 2nd after 18 minutes. Mullingar rarely threatened the home keeper in the first half and Highfield continued to attack at will with Hayes a constant thorn in their side and he added his third on 28th minutes to complete his hat-trick. In the second half fair play to Mullingar who kept plugging away and came close to putting the ball in the net on numerous occaions. This is a much changed Highfield side from last season with a youthful look about them and it’s great to see the future of Highfield get their chance and no doubt they will be a force in Division 1 this season. My man of the match was Ricky Fitzsimons a class addition to this side and a real playmaker and very influential in this game.
